Headache

What are headaches?


Headaches are pain experienced by patients anywhere at the head and neck. There are several types of headaches, namely, tension-type headaches, cluster headaches, and migraines.

Most of the time, headaches are caused by lack of sleep, stress, and neck strains. However, there are circumstances that headache can be caused by sinister causes such as high blood pressure, masses and leaking blood vessels.

Patients usually presents with:

  • Tightness at the temples

  • Sharp or throbbing pain

  • One sided headaches

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Giddiness

 

When to see a doctor?


Patient should seek urgent medical attention if he or she is experiencing:

  • Persistent pain or worse headache ever experienced

  • Weakness or numbness on one side of the body

  • Blurring of vision

  • Frequent headaches

 

What can I do to feel better?


Patients can take over the counter medication such as Paracetamol (Panadol) to help with the pain. Should the pain become recurrent or not resolved, he/she should see a doctor as soon as possible.
