What are medical grade Lasers?
Medical grade lasers are high energy, monochromatic lights used to treat various medical conditions. There is a wide range of lasers broadly categorized under “Ablative” and “Non-ablative”. They are also further divided into wavelengths, each more suited to treat specific condition. Examples of lasers are Nd:YAG (Nano/Picosecond), Alexandrite, CO2, Erbium YAG, etc.
What is it used for?
Due to the wide variety of lasers available, there is also a wide range of conditions that can be treated using lasers:
Pigmentations removal like sun spots and melasma
Facial blood vessels removal
Acne or acne scars
Surgical scar revision
Extraction of milia seeds and warts
Skin tightening and rejuvenation
When can the results be seen?
Depending on the laser modality, subtle improvements can be seen within a few days. However best results can be seen 3-4 weeks post treatment.
How many sessions are required?
Number of sessions varies depending on the condition. For example, sun spots may only need 2-3 sessions, but melasma requires regular maintenance sessions often in combination with other treatments. Doctors will draw up a treatment plan specific to the condition.
How long will it last for?
Lasting effect depends on the condition but most of all depends on how well the skin is looked after post treatment. This includes activities, exposure as well as the daily skin care regime.
